As a new parent at Sagamore Hills Elementary School in 2012, I'd like to know that Sagamore is utilizing online resources. Sagamore Hills online efforts are getting documented, and here I'd like to document what Oak Grove Elementary School is doing online, as a comparable.
District Website
Their district website, at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/oakgrove
…
I notice the Oak Grove homepage speaking to current parents—which I think is the right focus—with announcements, resources, and news channels (mailing list, twitter). Contrast with Sagamore Hill's which seems marketing fluff. I also like that Oak Grove has more navigation up front, where Sagamore Hills is more buried under sub-menus.
Classrooms actually have a presence online that seems up to date, though some are rather static (but still useful). Messages from teachers, homework, resources… They seem to be hosted at various places:
- The District at http://fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us/ (powered by "FirstClass" (not sure what that is))
- Grade 1 (Class 1, 2), Grade 2 (Class 1, 2), Grade 3 (Class 1, 2, 3, 4)
- Webs
- Kindergarten, Grade 1 (Class 1, 2), Grade 2 (Class 1, 2), Grade 4, Grade 5 (Class 1, 2, 3)
- Google Sites
- Grade 2 (Class 1)
- TeacherWeb
- Grade 3 (Class 1)
- Oak Grove site at District
- Grade 5
- Self Hosted
- Grade 5 (Class 1)
The site is link rich, pointing to many useful resources, many so cool they're password protected (the district pays for them). Quite a bit of up-to-date reports are also provided, like what the library is up to.
